Normally I really have no problem on judging upon singer/songwriter-stuff:
Unnecessary and pointless.
All of it!
So I really hate listening to these records, especially as every once in a while there comes along some musician that is simply so adorable that my wonderful theory once again is scattered. And well, here is this little split cd...
Recently I ordered the Chris Leo book in the mi amante mailorder, but as I recieved the package there also was this wonderful looking cd they released which, to make it short, is really enjoyable.
The three songs by Rob And The Pinhole Stars from Berlin are electronically doped dreamy emo pop songs, reminding me a lot of The Postal Service or also a little bit of the later Notwist.
Björn Kleinhenz from Göteborg is doing the more classical songwriter music, relying on acoustic guitars, country basslines and a voice that sounds like it's stolen from an old beach boys record. Maybe I'm only in a strange mood, but this is beautiful, relaxed music and yes, I like it.
I simply hope I don't encourage anyone to start recording her/his own singer/songwriter-emotional-blahblah project. really, all you people with an acoustic guitar in your hand, just because you know how to strum a little and how to fuck up relationships doesn't make you the new Bob Dylan. Writing good songs is a serious business, godammit... [marius]
