Musika 77
Musika 77
brave you free may - cd
mi amante
Friends of the historic approach on popular music will have to labels popping up when I say 77. One will be punk and one will be disco. Well, sometimes history has to be remodelled because from now on 77 will also stand for extremely vulnerable acoustic music from Sweden.

This is in many ways the right record at the right point of time. Not only does it fit the autumn that is embracing us right now with his leafy fingers but also it is in a way a mix of many currents within today’s indie river. On the basis of melancholy folk music it blends Americana and Appalachian songwriter tradition with this thing called slowcore since the 80s. there is an overall pop appeal but pure pop is rarely as intimate as this.

Apart from singer Johann Krantz’s overall present singing voice the musical basis is always a guitar randomly backed with violins, drums, horns, pianos and more. The artwork is beautiful and the only real point of criticism is the missing lyrics sheet. I know there is tons of singer/songwriter records out there right now and we are coming close to a point of saturation but its absolute intimacy makes this record another flavour worth adding to the let’s-call-it-folk-revival punch.  [jan]
