Junk Pile
Junk Pile
ein viertelton unterm a - cd
d.i.y.
To be honest I expected the absolutely worst when I received this cd. The cover showing a photograph of some club’s stage that is way too dark (so dark that I didn’t recognize the title in the corner…), a bad, bad band photo and a band info that says “melodic punk epigone”, what else should I have thought? I mean I grew up in the 90s and I have seen hordes of band from neighbouring villages and towns trying to play melodic punk like this was California or at least Sweden. Well I guess today they would all try to play metalcore or screamo and playing melodic punk is really anticyclic in a way.

Whatever… I was rather wrong and this band isn’t so bad after all. Especially the bass is really good whenever there is room for it to flourish and compared to many other bands they can even sing a little. However the excurse to politics in “the cynic” are rather expression of legitimate anger than master thesis in why-this-world-sucksoligy and should be re-thought a little more deeply. But hey, I wrote shit much more stupid when I was young and who knows maybe the shit I write today is still stupid. Who cares?

I don’t see a reason why this record should gather any broader attention because all in all it is just plain melodic punk in the good old 90s way that every on who is or was into this kind of music has heard a zillion times but not every record is meant to change the world. Within their regional scene the quality of this record should be enough for Junk Pile to put a huge heap into the porcelain and that’s just fine. From the kids for the kids, you know… But maybe next time you could save a lot of money by just doing a cd-r or you could invest the money saved this way into an artwork that catches the eye a little more. Hey punk stay punk!  [jan]
