End Of A Season / Many Men Have Tried
End Of A Season / Many Men Have Tried
split - cd
refoundation
What’s the point? Am I too old? Am I too stubborn? Am I too eclectic? Somehow there is nothing, absolutely nothing that I like about metalcore. I can see that it is well done sometimes and I can value the good sound some instruments might have but the music doesn’t offer me the least bit of satisfaction.

I like hardcore. A lot. And I like quite many metal bands from Amon Amarth to Iron Maiden. But the one and only band that combined both these genres in a way I digest is Lt. Mosh. Every other band that has tried it bores me to death. And why is there not a single metalcore band with good lyrics? I know that I have high expectations. It’s hard to impress me with lyrics because it is something I am really into and that I know a lot about. I can say immediately if lyrics are great or not. I sense it. I feel it. And there are simply no good lyrics in metalcore… The artworks are also too cliché-ridden in most cases and the info sheet are often full of exaggerations and praising the bands like they invented a cure for cancer while all they did is copying their favourite bands without even getting close to their quality. Metalcore is a dead scene. It was already dead when it was born. It is simply a bad idea. Even most of the metallic new school hardcore bands in the 1990s were just bad. Very bad. Please stop making music like this. It leads to nothing but a waste of time, energy and raw materials.

Why don’t you try to play something that hasn’t been played exactly the same way by a million bands before? Why don’t you try to say something with your lyrics that hasn’t been said a million times before? And why the hell do you sing in this uninspiring throat singing way?!? You fuckers better start screaming! Scream until you’re coughing up blood! If you can express what you want to express this way then you have nothing to express because this expresses nothing. Make emotional music! Make passionate music! Write songs that make me laugh or cry or wanting to tear this whole fucking world down! Your music is too predictable. Please stop!

Some final words about this release: End Of A Season are kind of earlier Poison The Well and have annoying vocals that express absolutely no human feeling. I have already forgotten every single riff. Mediocre bulk commodity. Many Men Have Tried are a little better but they, too, have nothing special about them. And the cover of The Police’s “message in a bottle” is so horrible that their licence to play music should be confiscated instantly. Even Machine Head’s version was better and that one sucked already… However the artwork is really beautiful and one euro of each cd sold goes to groups fighting for animal, earth or human liberation. Good intention but that doesn’t change the fact that I’d rather listen to a telephone’s busy tone than to these bands. Sorry.  [jan]
