Influential bands often combine many different approaches to music. Listening to early records of bands like Descendents, Adolescents or Circle Jerks makes me feel how punk/hardcore once sounded before the sound of modern bands became either „punk“ or „hardcore“ and only seldom remain both. While listening to this Eulcid record I get a similar feeling: „hope: and songs to sing“ is strongly influenced by the early 90ies DC sound but it delivers lots of different facets. This three piece plays flawless posthardcore, their singer got a bright voice, the songs are technically matured and come along with lots of ideas. After starting the record player and listening to the groovy „the peoples grocery company“ I ask myself if I accidentally started a Fugazi record. The song „word of the mouth“ sounds so familiar to me however I can't find the song on one of my Le Shok releases. In turn „(i heard it) on the radio“ is a catchy pop punk tune. Although these influences are pretty different the record doesn't sound that erratic, Euclid harmonize all this together.

It's a shame that I never noticed Eulcid while they were still together. Of course this is not a modern classic like Fugazi or At The Drive-In but nevertheless a stunning posthardcore record!  [benni]
