I never really got Knarf Rellöm in non of all the incarnations so far. I mean I like the music and I respect the artists but I simply don’t get it…
The music is always a little too soft for the dancefloor and a little to weird to be pop. It simply defies all simple classifications. Which is a good thing. But I never quite know when to listen to their music. Which would be the perfect listening environment for Knarf Rellöm (Trinity)? Maybe early in the morning after a gabber party in a squat when you collectively beat up nazi skinheads and stick Adorno books up their asses? I just don’t know…
With their latest release it is the same thing. All four songs are really good, witty and intelligent. Is this the post-post-modern age where quotes, links and self-reference are the new authentic? The “gender song” fabulously deconstructs shitty gender roles and norms while “supermarket is auch ne bildung” and “akd” are a sheer accumulation of quotes from their own music as well as the whole popcultural circuit from Absolute Beginner to Vengaboys. This awesome. This is brilliant. Beyond doubt. But also very unique, weird and hard to handle. Electronic music for people who still read books.
