It has been years since I was on a festival for the last time mainly becouse most festival suck and the few that don't were always in a time that I had no time or money. But this year I was finally able to attend the legendary Fluff Fest in Czech Republic.
We met in Hamburg at 8.00 am in front of the car rental and received our two cars. After having picked up our last two passengers in Hannover our group of ten hc kids made its way to Rokycany easily guided by the navigation system. When we finally hit the camp site it was about 5.30 pm and we had just missed Purified In Blood, the metalcore comedy show from Norway. So we put up our tents and went straight to the stage to throw ourselves into the festival by watching whoever there may play. This must have been Landmine Spring who where okay but did not hold us in front of the stage. The all vegan culinary bargain was just to exquisite and we had some soy soft ice, tofu burgers and flashy coloured lemonade. The next band was Death Of Anna Karina from Italy who were like one of the festival's highlights, screamo with additional keyboards and an exalted singer with bare feet. Really good! The next band of interest was Children Of Fall with their pro intifade core. Well, read the lyrics and judge for yourself! But Petrus or whoever is responsible for weather over there let it rain heavily on them whilst all other bands had supreme sunshine. Coincedence? The aftershow party in the cinema tent was very crowded and the music's volume was way too low. We preferred going to bed early to be fit the next day. It was a long and hot ride...
We got up early to take the car and go to the next Tesco to buy cheap soy stuff. On the motorway we got stopped by the police who wanted and still want us to pay 40€ for not having clued the vignette that we bought on the windscreen. Okay from the legal point of view they are totaly right but hey, fuck laws and fuck the cops! We came back just in time to attend the first band of the day, Ornaments featuring the guitar players of Death Of Anna Karina (btw: why Anna Karina and not Anna Karenina???). Some of our crew where really impressed but for me their instrumental, spheric posthardcore was too mellow for noon time. Driving The Salt then were really dissapointing, so we decided to check out the neighboring open air bath, swim a bit and have a shower with icy water. When we came back really refreshed Bora from Lithuania were just about to play and were really cool, not mega killer but very nice and solide newschool hardcore with an always smiling simger. I bought their tape later on. Next to play were the ocean without cello and bass but these parts were simply replaced by their almighty laptop. They were impressive as always but sunshine just doesn't fit the mood they are creating. How can I feel claustrophobic when the sun shines over one of the most beautiful and fulfilled days I had this year? But their sheep mascot was cute as hell!
Then we had a talk with New Winds from Portugal about their pretty onedimensional lyrics about the Israel-Palestine conflict. Singer Bruno was pretty calm and kind but guitarist Bruno got almost furious and kept interupting everyone to make clear that whatever we might say whenever children are fighting against tanks he will be on the side of the children. Emotions as base of politics. Needless to say that a lot of bullshit came out of his mouth as he obviously doesn't want to be objective. The debate was ended without any advances as the band had to get on stage to play. It is really sad that one of the few outspoken political hardcore bands has such a onedimensional point of view in this topic. Some things written in their booklet are really, really close to antisemitism. After that I was really not able to attend their show but from far I realized them as a quite good Ignite copy with numerous cover songs from Minor Threat to Earth Crisis... The last band Deadlock was boring metal and the program ended with the Lost Film Fest, a bunch of political short films and the night ended with a best of Scooter party at the place of some Austrians. Hyper Hyper!
The sunday again began with sunshine and as the first band wasn't playing before 1.00 pm and we didn't want to take in the New Winds discussion round for certain reasons we went swimming again. The first band then was Wollongong who were a disappointment, so we went to Tesco again to buy stocks of vegan stuff for back home. We came back in time for Trust, an all girl hc band from argentina but when we arrived at the stage they were just playing encores. What had happend? The band Pavillon m² had been canceled and so every band played one slot earlier. For me that ment missing the band I wanted to see the most... That really pissed me off... Under Siege were as bad as expected and the best about To Kill were their pink „Mosh To Kill“ shirts. But than along came The Tangled Lines from Dresden who pretty much saved the day. Three boys in green jerseys and yellow shorts and a girl on the mic dressed as a fairy with wings playing oldschool hardcore with many cover songs and even more energy and enthusiam. So great! Giant all girl circle pit, stage diving mania (as the whole weekend...) and beautiful, cheap merch. The next band Lack was another highlight and many people really loved their show but again I just wasn't in the mood for such heavy stuff, not after such a fun show... So I passed my time buying some records at the distro of the Polish Emancypunx label and had another ice. The time Black Friday 29 played we used to pack our tent and stuff and then spend our last czech money on ice and burgers while Walls Of Jericho played a really great show with unbelievable circle pits, masked stage divers and an enormous power. It's not really my cup of tea but what they are doing they do in perfection. Extra fun was the Polish punks making a circle pit on a merch table while Lost Film Fest Scott filmed them. But than we had to leave and we left with a smile on our lips. This was really an amazing weekend and it ended at 6.00 where it started at a car rental in Hamburg Altona. Four hours later I was already back in the warehouse and working. It was a damn long day...
