This movie is one of the most weird flicks I've ever seen. It's all giggling, laughing and trying not to roll down the chair for lack of self control. Director Wenzel Storch definitely is some kind of madman! He worked on this movie for years and used more than 60t of all kinds of scrap and garbage for set design and costumes and I'd bet when he wrote the storyline, he was well intoxicated by several forbidden substances. This movie is an LSD-trip banned on celluloid.
The story or whatever in a few sentences: Gustaf and Knuffi are best friends for some kind of spell three snowmen spoke after Gustaf has saved Knuffi's life in their younger days. One day Eva arrives on her tractor and both of them immediately fall in love with her. Eva chooses Gustaf and they travel around the seven seas on a snail ship with their five kids and a crew of heavily armed indigenous people and animals (frogs, a rabbit, a hamster, an owl and a real bear!). Now after years of fighting the evil on every ocean they want to settle down on a distant, unknown island, but, oh my goodness, the king of this island is their old buddy Knuffi with an army of animal headed lackeys and two ministers of propaganda who pass half their time pissing. Eva gets caught in his fangs and now it is on Gustaf to rescue her. Will he succeed?
The whole movie is full of brilliant just as weird ideas, stop motion scenes, cute animals the story so often changes direction into least expected directions that even the oracle of delphi in her glory days couldn't have predicted its course. Other highlights are goremaster Jörg Buttgereit in a minor role, Harry Rohwolt synchronizing the bear and the theme song „Tellerlip girl“ performed by Max Raabe. This movie is masterpiece! [jan]
