Miyagi Records is a brand new label situated in my hometown Hamburg and this one is their first release.
The compilation kicks off with Culm from Rheine playing posthardcore quite similar to the band A Day In Black And White that they just played some shows with. The second band on the a side is Kenzari’s Middle Kata from Bavaria whose last album on Milipede already got hyped in this zine and again their brilliant guitars and enormous sense for beautiful melodies along with intelligent drumming totally gets me. This instrumental got more things happening than many vocal tracks really!
But then the flipside puts everything into shadow. Tenlike from Sweden created such a beautiful song that I initially thought “wow”. It is funny that the info quotes the movie “absolute giganten” because the best point of reference I can think of is Sophia and especially their “reprise” featured on the soundtrack to that very movie. Definite must for a please-kiss-me-mixtape! The record is closed by Mercer from Cologne whose performance is also convincing. Another contribution to the latest instrumental postrock hype and again I have to break my promise to be bored by the next band that tries to sell me instrumental music. This is just too nice to be hated.
Below the line this is a good kickstart for a new, promising label with a beautiful gatefold artwork three good songs plus a truly brilliant one. And btw the info sheet was the most lovely one I ever got. Fine bricolage and keep it going!
