Strange thing that is. Somehow this sounds like MC5 would play Misfits songs over Sonic Youth equipment and get recorded by the early Daniel Johnston interrupted by The Velvet Underground coming by every now and then to hand out some new filthy drug cocktails!
Maybe I should become one of these guys who invent weird descriptions to make bands appear interesting… No really, this stupid description is not as far from the truth as you might think. Japanther sound really unique on this recording and manage to combine diverse retro elements to a record that sounds accurate today but that could also have been the latest talkabout in the heydays of Warhol’s Factory.
Sounds like it would be even better in a live situation. They are on tour right now but when they hit Hamburg I was out of town. I hope they will come back here or wherever I will live then one day. Very newyorkish!
