Me First & The Gimme Gimmes
Me First & The Gimme Gimmes
love their country - lp/cd
fat wreck
Me First & The Gimme Gimmes, the punk rock equivalent to your local top 40 band is back in town and this time they chose the omnipresent country genre for their art of punkification.

Form Dolly Parton to the Dixie Chicks, from Hank Williams to Garth Brooks, everyone is pulled through the mixer. And of course John Denver and Johnny Cash don’t lack, either. They really made good choices on their search for cover-worthy songs and this is exactly the problem. Every single song they play is way better in its original version. Not only did they erase every drop of what makes country special. They also added nothing of what makes punk so great. No feeling, no power, just blah.

Instead of listening to this only one more time I prefer waiting for a country album by Christina Aguilera. It can’t possibly be worse. This is very, very bad.

Oh, and sending absolutely no original artwork or lyrics or booklet is also new for Fat Wreck and it is something I cannot possibly approve. A record – especially in hc/punk – is far more than just the plain music on it. At least this is what we are constantly told to keep us from downloading it for free. Or maybe Fat Wreck wants to encourage file sharing? Well, this is really punk then. Thumbs up!  [jan]
