The Book Of Daniel is Daniel Ingemar Gustafsson and Daniel is the older brother of Martin who is known better as Boy Omega. There seems to be quite a accumulation of musical competence in this family. Of course they have already been playing together and now the debut of the older brother is released by the label that has already released some records for the younger brother. Will there also be a record of one of their parents out on Riptide in a near future?
Time will tell but time has already told that Daniel needn’t hide behind his younger brother and that the world is big enough for two Gustafsson singer/songwriters even more as they are far from playing the same music. This record is much more Americana and less Scandinavian than Boy Omega’s work. There is much more soul and jazz in this. The melancholy quota however seems to be equally high on both their records. There is so many string and wind instruments, so many choirs and the drummer really got the jazz. All in all there is fifteen musicians who added their abilities to this records. Daniel’s brother for example is giving back up vocals and playing bass on most of the tracks. Another backing vocalist you might have heard about is Björn Kleinhenz. If you haven’t heard about him then you should better start a web research right now…
I really like this record. I like its barroom atmosphere and I am very thankful that music is no competition because I know about this publication’s high reputation and I wouldn’t want to sow dispute between the two brothers by valuing one’s record higher than the other one’s. I hope they are satisfied if I just like both of them.
