The World/Inferno Freindship Society keeps marching along the path they took with their last ep “me vs angry mob” which means a little more guitars, some sound enhancements but all in all the same delicious dish always.
The record even kicks off with a song from the previous ep. Overall there is four out of six ep songs featured on this record but song recycling is a phenomenon we already know of this band and there is not much bad about it I think. I love the guitar lick in “the velocity of love” and “only anarchists are pretty” is a super hit. There is really a lot of great songd on this record. The artwork is very much leaned on the good ol’ 1920s, the period they court so often and it looks fine.
I guess this is one of the love or hate bands around. If you never liked them you won’t like this record either but if you always loved them (like I do) you will love this one as well. I love them for the way they are different and unique. I love them for the way they express hope and joy. I love them for their boheme and their alcoholism. But there is one thing I cannot forgive: How can you play a tune as brilliant as “addicted to bad ideas” live and not put it on a record? All I have to kill my desire for it is watching one shitty video on youtube. Fuck, please I need this song! But even without this gem “red-eyed soul” might be the band’s best record so far. And their guitarist Lucky Strano is so good-looking since he has cut off his Slash hair. Real eye candy!
