One of the guys in The Dragon Rapide used to play in The Lapse which gives them already an a priori bonus because I love The Lapse. However this band sounds a whole different.
The Dragon Rapide play an instrumental postrock thing with a very jazzy and leaned back vibe. Perfect for getting up on a Sunday afternoon or staying in bed on a Friday morning. There is so much going on in this music, so many varying rhythms and interwoven melodies. It’s amazing. I’ve been listening to this record more often now then most other records in the past months (except Beirut maybe…) and still I am not bored the least bit.
Let me put it into an allegory form: If The Dragon Rapide, Off Minor and Deerhoof were triplets then you would spend hot nights with Off Minor, have the craziest of all dancing parties with Deerhoof but the one you want to wake up next to and talk to while breakfast would be The Dragon Rapide because it simply never gets boring conversing to it. They are less overtly salacious and not as radically direct but still a hell of a listening pleasure. Thanks Coraille once again!
