The plot is set in the prerevolutionary Shanghai. Sing wants to become a real gangster and be part of the axe gang. Unfortunately he is no roughneck at all his fat assed but good hearted best friend is no help either. One day the people in his block get into trouble with the axe gang and it turns out that among all the ordinary fools there live five kung fu grandmasters with in our terms supernatural powers. The axe gang answers with other kung fu grandmasters and the path is free to the final showdown between Sing and The Beast and in the end the whole story is so completely unimportant. It is fading behind the mad fighting sequences that are just as unreal as „Shaolin Soccer“ was and of course just as funny. Some scenes made me almost slip to the floor from my seat laughing.

But what really sets this movie apart is all the quotations from other movies when the landlady appeares like Aretha Franklin in „Blues Brothers“ or the wave of blood coming out the door like in „The Shining“. And is it coincidence that the boss of the axe gang has a certain similarity with Snoop Dogg? This has Tarantino grandness. This movie has absolutely no draft but hey, this is comedy.
