Zea are a Dutch duo playing music with the aid of electronic equipment, a guitar and their voices.
Their music is song-oriented but the song and the catchiness hide behind a wall of lofi sound and noise. Some songs are nerdy pop, some are maniac depro synth music. It’s a bit like Atom and his Package at the Wave Gotik Treffen or like Gravy Train headlining Wacken Open Air. It’s catchy and it works but somehow it feels a little out of place and off the tracks.
It’s weird, unique and good. If you don’t trust me, trust John Peel who played them on his show more than once. It has got the spirit of early 80s anything goes new wave transposed into the new century. It’s electronic but it’s neither dancefloor nor chill out. It has guitars but it is clearly not rock. No matter if you like it you’ll have to admit that they have something very unique and individual about them and isn’t that one of the biggest compliments you can make a band?
