So now Deny Everything got a full length out. Full twenty minutes packed with fifteen songs. I like that. I totally agree with what they sing in “punk = short”.
But not only do I like that the songs are short, I also like the songs themselves. They are just in the right middle lane between hardcore and punk combining catchiness with a severe punch. I also like the topics they cover with their lyrics. On the one hand there is a bunch of songs dismembering some of the many, many things every punk or hardcore kid is (or should be) angry about like patriotism, sexism or simply living in fucked up society like ours. On the other hand there is some cool songs about being a punk band, about touring and shitty bands you share your rehearsal space with. Lyrics that I can relate to.
The music is fast and reminds me of Strike Anywhere but with more aggressiveness and a little less pop appeal. The only thing I’d wish to alter is the quite low singalong quota. I love singalongs! Anyway, a very good hc/punk record with a lot of energy released on the highly simpatico label Yo Yo Records.
