Tschilp from Hamburg are already around for quite a while. I remember having bought their demo tape at a show with Submission Hold at Rote Flora in 2002. Now they finally got a 7” out.
This fine piece of vinyl got two songs on it. Both are melancholy indie rock or postpunk driven by hooky guitar leads, energetic and various drumming plus a knarzy bass. Atmospherically very dense and with an intimate sound.
Lately I’ve been discussing with some friend if all-female bands necessarily sound different from all-male bands. We didn’t really come to a conclusion but I am quite sure that very few all-male bands could sound as melancholy as Tschilp without drifting into pathos. Their website says they are working on a full length. I hope I won’t have to wait for it as long as I had to wait for this 7”.
