No Use For A Name
No Use For A Name
all the best songs - cd
fat wreck
No Use For A Name. What could I write about them? Either you love them or you don’t care about them. I think no one really hates them but if you aren’t into melodic punk they got nothing to offer to you.

I like melodic punk. It is one of the things I grew up on next to deutschpunk and the usual suburban pseudo-counterculture stuff like Nirvana, Bob Marley or Sepultura. I’ve never been as much a die-hard fan like the guys in Pinnacles (THE melodicore band in my hometown) but I really liked bands like Bad Religion, NoFX, Millencolin, Pennywise and, yeah, No Use For A Name. “leche con carne” was my NUFAN record number one. Good band.

However I can’t really recommend this record. Of course, there is really some of their best songs on this record like “on the outside” or “let me down”. But “let me down” is way better in the version on the “live fat die young” compilation and why is their version of “redemption song” missing? The two new songs don’t really belong to the best ones they’ve written, either. So if you love this band you’ll need to have all their regular records plus the live record in any case and you won’t need this one for the two rather mediocre new songs. Maybe if you just want to have one NUFAN record this could be your choice but if you like this kind of music you will never be satisfied with just one record of theirs. So, good band but no use for this record.  [jan]
