This record is already out for quite a while but just today I decided that it can’t happen that I write nothing about it. This piece of punk history must be commented.
First things first: Artwork most awesome and kept in exactly the right colours. Shared staged with both bands, totally nice people. A lot of nice labels involved. Rijkaard Jugend shirt to be seen on a photo. Gatefold and coloured vinyl yeah!
If you know NeinNeinNein you know already that they are a great band and you won’t be surprised to hear that their side is very good. However the Kaput Krauts side is even a little better. Especially “nachwuchsmisanthropeneldorado” is a real hit. NeinNeinNein however counter with awesome lyrics on “xnostalgieclubx” (“…true till bored to death…”). Both bands cover each other once and NeinNeinNein add another two cover songs by EA80 and Amen 81.
Both bands play cliche-free punk with german lyrics that makes all that nix gut crap more than superfluous. Very varied in style and speed and always on point with their lyrics. I wish there were more bands like these that could make deutschpunk a threat again. I have this vision of hundreds of punks with mohawks and fake leather jackets that say NeinNeinNein, Kaput Krauts and “nie wieder deutschland” assaulting the Reichstag and flying red flags on top of it while they singalong to Toxoplasma and Ernst Busch. Maybe one day… However I don’t think any of the two bands would want to be labelled as deutschpunk. Who wants to be deutsch anyway? Fuck deutsch, viva punk! This record is totally recommended.
