Betsy Cohen is The Best in every sense of the word. I’ve seen her perform live on her tour through Europe with Cheese On Bread and later with The Poem Is You and she was awesome.
A lot of stuff has been written about that thing called antifolk and all that but somehow this woman never really got the attention she deserved. If there is justice in this world this must change with this output. This little cd-r got everything you could wish an antifolk record to have. Beautiful cut-n-paste artwork, handwritten name and title on the cd, lofi bedroom recordings and an overall magnificent d.i.y. charm. However all this would make no sense if the songs weren’t good. Thankfully the songs are awesome. Especially “63% of the time (collecting hearts)” and “if you want something done” deserve to become all time classics. Betsy’s dreamy voice, the ever present ukulele and the many, many other instruments that are used here create a canny atmosphere to dive into fully. If I should ever stand in a traffic jam trying to escape from a major natural disaster that is about to hit my town then this is the record I want to listen to. I can’t imagine that anything bad could happen as long as this music is played. These songs could make bloods hug crips with tears in their eyes. If you run a distro please distribute this worldwide!
