After the hiatus of Roger Sisters Miyuki Furtado teamed up with Destiny Ming Wan Montague and Autry Fulbright and formed Shock Cinema.
Not surprinsingly this New York band sounds similar to the mentioned band. Like it Shock Cinema synthesize garage and postpunk, whereas a slight influence of goth and psycedelia and a overall pissed off punk feeling is new to the mix. The first song “breathe now” sounds promising with his cascading feedback and tribal drumming. Alas, the following songs cannot keep up my high expectations. While they are a pleasant mix of dance beats, goth infused keyboarding, shrieking guitar playing and snotty singing, they fail in being memorable and end up being dated. 2007 isn’t 2003 anymore – this goes for the Thunderbirds Are Now Remix as well. But nevertheless there are promising elements on this CD which the band should evolve instead of falling into obvious postpunk stereotypes.
