If your band’s name is an allusion to a band like Refused than you’d better have something really, really good to offer. To make it short: this is not the case here.
In some way it fits perfectly that the singer of Koroded (who is called a luminary of the german metal scene in the info, if so what is Kai Hansen? God himself?) is featuring on one track because both bands have the same problem on a meta level. They have no style. You could call it eclecticism but in my eyes it is rather combining elements of different styles of music without taking the least care of context. Sepultura’s rage derived from growing up in a third world country. Iron Maiden’s energy was fuelled by Thatcherism. Slayer were the answer to a bigot religious system in the US. Refused were so angry because they despised capitalism. And what about New Noise Crisis or Koroded respectively? They end up playing something I can only call “hard music”.
Their anger seems so fake to me. White boys singing bout problems that don’t exist. Okay, they are good musicians and their songwriting is pretty good. They even got some intelligent breaks. But I can’t sense a single honest emotion behind the solid production. Sorry. This sounds like rocking for rocking’s sake. Of course this alone would be fine. We live in a relatively free society where well-off kids have all the right to play rock band if they want to. Unfortunately there more to criticise which goes far beyond questions of style.
The song “tech-no” is more than stupid. Not only is it rockistic bullshit to make a binary division into guitars = good, techno = evil This song that according to the info deals with bands like Tokio Hotel and The Rasmus crosses an important line. When they call these bands “fagots” they act homophobic and reproduce a heteronormative binary gender model. You think the singers of those bands look like fags? Well, then fuck you! Zero tolerance for homophobia! Think before you write lyrics! And please read books about gender and queer theory. Try Judith Butler as a start. And remember: “next time you call us fags you’ll taste our rainbow fists!”
