Lake Me
Lake Me
solace - lp
the company with the golden arm
Lake Me is drum and guitar duo where both musicians share vocals. Reads like The White Stripes but sounds a whole lot differently. Every time I try to put into words what this record reminds me of I end up somewhere in the 1990s.

Okay, in some way my thoughts go even back to the 1980s. I don’t think this music would be possible without what happened in D.C. and Washington State from about 1984 on. I think Dischord. I think K Records. I think Slant 6. I think Quixotic. And all these are thoughts I like. Pretty much a logical consequence that I like Lake Me as well.

The two women create an atmosphere that is intimate and direct, emotional and touching. I don’t really get what they want to say with their lyrics but I get what they want to say with their voices and instruments. The voices complement one another really good pretty much like it does with the singer and the guitarist of The Assassinators which I have seen live yesterday. The drumming with its total absence of uffta uffta reminds me of the first Hole record. The guitars remind me of some other awesome band but I can’t put my finger on it, sorry.

My fave is definitely “fireglow” with its amazing guitar lick. This lp is a reissue of the self-released cd on The Company With The Golden Arm. The artwork is simply but beautiful. There is no lyrics attached but they can be read on the band’s homepage. They sound like Indigo Girls were part of the revolution summer along with Rites Of Spring and Embrace. What a stupid comparison. But I think it applies.  [jan]
