Kids In Misery # 1
Kids In Misery # 1
emo diy polit kleinkunst zine
56 pages, din A5
Print fanzines are fucking dead. At least that's what you got to think when you compare today's output to that some ten years back. Internet killed the typewriter star…

Thankfully that's not the whole of the truth. They still exist, the small d.i.y. ego/emo zines where people pull their inside out and open the treasure chests of their personal lives. Far off pretty professional music fanzines like Ox, Maximum Rock'n'Roll or Plastic Bomb they are like the printed counterpart to the arts & crafts revolution. In a world of serial production handmade goods like these are more then means to an end. They are a statement.

One of these statements is the new "kids in misery" fanzine out of the surroundings of the Hamburg based label/distro with the same name. This thing got it all. Cut'n'paste, emo poetry, political stuff, an interview with screamo band Amalthea, distro tour diary, a special plastic outer sleeve, magic marker on cover and loads of personality. It is the immediateness of this zine that touches me. This is emo in the way it's meant to be. Without fake style but with a lot of love for details and an overt personality. In our world of factory farming it is niches like "kids in misery" that help grow an alternative. Or as our very own slogan puts it: "life is art. be creative!"  [jan]
