Honestly, it is not too frequent that a screamo band catches me but every now and then it happens and I really dig it. Rollergirls are one of these rare occurrences. At first I had only downloaded their demo (for free on their website) because my former band used to play a show with them at Haus Mainusch in Mainz but when I listened to it and read the booklet they had me.
The music is more or less screamo in the more epic way with little weird breaks and stuff. Think of Orchid or June Paik rather than italo style. It works through the emotional energy, the dynamics and the harmonies in the guitars. What impressed me even more was the lyrics, especially of “stase”. I can only nod in approval. And quoting Theo Adorno and Maria Montessori isn’t to bad a reference either.
This thing is over and over simpatico and for a demo the sound is good as well. However it makes me impatient for the announced studio record. Will you send me one to Santiago?
