Everton
Everton
floorsleepers - cd
d.i.y.
These folks from lower Austria play emo in the manner of the 90ies. In contrast to most of the so called emo bands nowadays Everton is less orientated to trendy labels like Vagrant or Victory Records. “floorsleepers” is self-released on a diy basis by the band. Nevertheless this band is not free from all typical emo sterotypes.

Firstly the artwork is full of clichés and in general the whole aesthetic doesn't appeal to me. The digipack artwork mostly consists of two black-and-white photographs loaded with some purple tones. A girl sitting on her bed in a messy room and reading diary - surrounded by vinyl, a record player, converse shoes and books. The lyrics are too simple and short. They seem to be translated to English by German speaking kids. The additional explanatory notes to every song in the booklet simply rewrite the same subject.

Everton deliver ten Songs in the vein of 90ies classics like Mineral or Sunny Day Real Estate. Nothing new or special but nevertheless well produced and well written. Every song on this release deals on the same quality and emotional level without having any exceptions in a positive or negative sense. For a still young band Everton did well but at a general view this remains to be just another emo release. I assume that they did not want to attain anything else.  [benni]
