Earthless
Earthless
rhythms from a cosmic sky - lp/cd
tee pee
If Johnny Rotten would know Earthless… Since „hating“ Pink Floyd and psychedelic rock in general became one of the first dogmas in punk, the influence of artyfarty 70ies rock has been disbanded. Over the course of the last few years the trend has turned as a number of punk bands perfectly involved psych in their songs. Earthless goes further as their contemporaries. Basically you won’t hear the background of their band’s members, most prominently figure Mario Rubalcaba who drummed in such influential bands like Clikatat Ikatowi, Hot Snkaes and Black Heart Procession. The San Diego band focuses on playing raw and edgy instrumental rock that is all about nail-biting tension and relentless repetition. Dominated by winding solo guitar leads, the two twenty minute long songs on the album meander through heavy and rocky riffage, psychedelic landscapes and oceans of feedback. The songs are somehow between classicism and vision. While the improvisation reigns the song, things don’t get completely blurry. Call it magic or just musical genius - but through the extensive improvisation, the jams always find back to their main motives. So, the overall picture is pretty consistent. Like an acid trip to which Earthless would be the best soundtrack, this record cuts deep and leaves it’s mark.  [phillip]
