Straight Corner
Straight Corner
gewehr bei fuss - cd
horrorbiz
In fact Straight Corner from Koblenz, Germany plays solid and jolty old school punkrock. Imagine a mix of AFI, Circle Jerks and classic '77 sounds. As regards content there are lyrics about well-known topics like religion, homophobia, animnal rights, army and so on. Straight Corner created a melodic and a the same time energetic sound which perfectly worked a thousand times before. Nothing new or special however there is nothing wrong with that.

Regrettably the band totally destructs the positiv aspects of their music through several causes. Firstly some of the songs have an additional, horrible shouter which sounds like NYHC. Up to now I never heard any band combining this shouting with 77 sounds. I know that this kind of singing is often used on Horrorbiz releases however I can't remember many good releases on Horrorbiz. I am used to be bored by promotional records but I rarely ask myself during the first song how to survive the rest of the release. Secondly the complete artwork is a disaster. I simply don't like ironically choosen military appearance of the release.

The best thing about the release are the enclosed 3D-glasses. Well the artwork doesn't look better in 3D but I mean how cool are 3D-glasses?! Maybe I should start collecting records with 3D-glasses?! [benni]
