Moneybrother
Moneybrother
to die alone - lp/cd
burning heart
When The (International) Noise Conspiracy and The Hives came on tour shortly before their simultanous breakthrough a few years ago there was a third band in the package named Monster and they fucking drowned between these superstars in spe who set every club under double fire. I saw the tour at molotow/hamburg but only me and two friends plus one nameless skinhead were dancing. That was so damn unjust because Monster were an awesome band on stage as on record. So I was sad when they split up immediately after the tour. But from the ashes of Monster there arose Moneybrother and that was more than just a substitude. Moneybrother was Monster minus ska plus pop doubleplus soul. The first record was a smasher. I listened to it i don't know how often and it made me dance and laugh and cry. Now it is time for round two, time to die alone. This record is more melancholy than the debut and still more disco. Maybe it has expanded right the same way into opposite directions. The first song „they're building walls around us now“ may be the most disco track out of sweden since Abba, a definitive hip shaker. „i'm not ready for it, jo“ on the other hand is so absolutely soaked in tears Robert Smith turns red listening to it. Please don't ask me to say whether this record or the first one was better. I just don't know. They are different yet both absolutely Moneybrother. Let me put it like this: If you throw a party and you want the crowd to go crazy, take the first one. If you are alone with someone you tenderly love and lights are low, take the new one, and he/she will melt in your arms or otherwise he/she isn't worth your attention. This record is big feelings pressed on vinyl! [jan]
