The record title gives us a direction what to expect: the sound of Sniffing Glue draws its influences from early 80ies. „we are sniffing glue... fuck you!“ is the first full-length of a new band with members of The Italian Stallion and Krautbomber playing thrashcore. I hold in my hands a cd with 19 angry, harsh and nihilistic thrashcore attacks. Think of examples like Minor Threat, Gang Green, Black Flag or The Freeze and followers. With the difference that Sniffing Glue have unpretentious lyrics that most punk bands singing this in german would be lampooned for. Fortunately the english version works out better.
What bothers me on this release is that it totally reminds me of my „nothing to nothing“ LP from Tear It Up with the difference that Sniffing Glue aren't that perfected. Additionally the cd includes their current „suburban suicide, suburban violence“ ep and I can't figure out any variances between the different releases. Furthermore to me this thrashcore sound is strongly connected to the vinyl format! It feels so strange to put a disc into my cd player and get these rough and angry noises out of my speakers. Distracting as well is the artwork which is a composed range of three different parties, obviously having explicitly opposing conceptions.
Don't get me wrong, this isn't bad at all. However my personal conclusion is just that there are still some empty spaces in my Black Flag or Tear It Up collections and I feel like better fixing them instead of listening to their numerous followers. While examining the messy artwork and the impressive live shots, it becomes clear that the charm of Sniffing Glue is their live energy and not necessarily their detached music.
