Tocotronic
Tocotronic
für immer jung - 7"
ritchie
About ten years after the „live in Freiburg“ 7“ on Ritchie Records, Tocotronic once again asked Ritchie to put out a single on his small likeable label. Both tracks have been available before as downloads only, now luckily pressed on vinyl for the first time. I am sure this one makes much more sense than the „kaplitulation live“ double lp on Universal, which I haven't heard (yet).

Starting with the title track „für immer jung“, Tocotronic deliver a pretty minimalistic indie song which only consists of an acoustic guitar in the background and Dirk von Lowtzow singing a duett with Julia Wilton of Das Bierbeben.

„explosion (berlin string theory version)“ on the flipside is the last song off last years „kapitulation“ full-length in a different version. While the album version with guitars is a bit noisy, this version creates an entirely different harmonic atmosphere. Played without the traditional rock instruments, Dirks voice only meets classic instruments including a string quartet, piano and a reed organ. In the first half of the clean sound is completely instrumental and builds up a stunning tension before the singing applies to the sound collage. I like this one much better than the album version.

With this fantastic release Tocotronic once again prove that they are one of the few above d.i.y. level bands in Germany that really matter. Strictly limited to 1000 copies – so hurry up to get your hands on one of these!  [benni]
