In a plain artwork Monochrome with „caché“ once again bring their sound one step closer to the state of perfection. Monochrome remain true to their own style and furthermore deliver their unique and cliché-free interpretation of nowadays pop music with male and also female vocals. Again Monochrome have a new female singer. After Lisa von Billerbeck (singer on the previous release „Eclat“) left Monochrome and started I Might Be Wrong the new voice in Monochrome is Kate Complikate this time. Their beautiful and catchy pop melodies are still coined by their obvious punk/hardcore roots and their content isn't permanently positive („down down down, with a knife in my suitcase“ to quote one of the best moments on „caché“). Monochrome always have rough edges however playing pop music. In contrast to the previous record „éclat“ these rough edges are more pronounced through using more quiet/loud contrasts. Like the title „caché“ (French for „concealed“) implies multifaceted song structures coined by the last 25 years of music history and every time listening to it I discover more seemingly hidden elements. Songs with catchy tunes which don’t sound that clear after listening over and over to them. Monochrome still stand for pop music that is too harsh for the radio and to plain for the hardcore kids, once again the band constructed their own niche. I don't understand why this band is still that fameless after 10+ years and I hope Monochrome will finally get to celebrate attention and success with this release!
I spend the whole last weekend working on a local jazz festival. Nothing could have felt better than getting up in the morning and listening to „chaché“ while driving to the festival by car through spring’s sunny and colourful nature like yellow rape fields. Why doesn't every hardcore band sound like Monochrome? [benni]
