This release is such a good example why I am so highly bored of the current hardcore scene. When I first got introduced to hardcore Kid Dynamite where one of the first bands I listened to. I remember lots of shows in summer 2001 when we were driving countless miles to smaller hardcore shows and listening to Kid Dynamite´s "shorter faster louder" at full volume in the car over and over again. Now it´s summer 2008, I am sitting at 24 degrees in my room and listen to Deny Everything, this band everyone compares to Kid Dynamite. Deny Everthing is definitely not the new Kid Dynamite, the analogy is a shame. Yes, this Cologne based band tries to be the new Kid Dynamite in an ungainly way. Every fucking riff is stolen from their examples, the singer Pablo is an unexpressive version of Jason Shevchuk and even the cover artwork got something of Kid Dynamiteés second full-length. The elements that blew me away some years ago frighten me off in this case. Well, I know that most hc kids love Deny Everything but I donét get the point about it. For sure Kid Dynamite were an awesome band but I´m neither looking for a new Kid Dynamite 10 years later nor for a Kid Dynamite reunion. What´s so cool about trying to sound like Gorilla Biscuits, Turning Point, Black Flag, Adolescents, Youth Of Today or whoever? I know the hardcore originals and can remember only few high-quality retro-artists. On the other hand there are so many outstanding artists in our time.
Don´t get me wrong, there are more extraneous bands around than Deny Everything and I am sure these four folks are nice people. Their lyrics are great, they have much more to say than the average follower of this or that legendary band 10 or 20 years ago. But as long as there are creative artists like Dälek, Just Went Black, Pantha Du Prince, Battles, Pigon, Turbostaat performing at Rote Flora or Hafenklang stages I see no reason for being into this kind of boredom.
