Kettcar keep re-recording their first record and vanish into insignificance but as this download only ep contains mainly remixes it might be their best release in years!
So it ain’t no wonder that the title track is boring as hell and the 3:35 minutes would be spent better with any song from their demo or their first lp. So let’s rather focus on the five remixes of “graceland”. Computer go first and turn the song into easy to consume electronic pop. Not bad but also nothing special. Next in line are Egotronic who’s remix reminds me heavily of Glasgow Smile’s “444”. Coincidence? Anyway a good stomper that would be even better without Wiebusch’s vocal samples that don’t add much to the track. Jan Weigel turn’s “graceland” into a dub and the bassline is really awesome. Good, rather ambient remix that stands out on this rather rave ep. The absolute highlight however are Frittenbude with their version dubbed “raveland”. This song is a smash hit. I’ve listened to it about a hundred times in the last two months while travelling and more than once it saved my day. Somehow I identify more with rave than Kettcar these days… The track is in Frittenbude’s Saalschutz on hard drugs signature style and kicks ass like shit. After this Krink’s very techno remix can only loose. However it is far from being bad. Friends of the Audiolith posse and the like should check this one out. Just ignore that it is Kettcar…
