This 12“ features four of Germany’s finest contemporary d.i.y. bands and a cute panda bear on the cover. Shokei, The Falcon Five and Petethepirathesquid come along with two songs each while Kids Explode got three songs to offer. The panda doesn’t sing unfortunately… But let’s have a little look at what each band got for us here.
Shokei amaze once again their signature style of dancy, arithmetical posthardcore. A rhythm section that really deserves the word “rhythm” meets good guitars, intense vocals and a whole lotta energy. And Metallica rip off song titles always give some extra points!
The Falcon Five are the most rocking band on this piece of vinyl playing rockish punk with a certain indie nerdiness. Still very urban, still very powerful and still a very decent kick in the balls for all those indie bands out there who fail so badly in being relevant.
If this was a competition (which it fortunately isn’t) Kids Explode would clearly be the winner in my eyes. Their three songs a just awesome. What a blaze! So much energy. So much drive. Emotional posthardcore with everything just in place from great songwriting over superb sound to vocals that express so much more than just words and melody. It reminds me of Rites of Spring or Life at these Speeds and it certainly is not the slightest bit worse than these bands. <3
On their eleventh release Petethepiratesquid are still one of this shitty country’s finest and most unique posthardcore bands. Multiple vocals, multiple layers of riffs, great dynamics and an air so tense it might burst. Oh, and “close-knit, great fit” got an incredible singalong. A perfect finale for a record.
The info sheet is right. This record really is a treasure!
