Lilac is a one man project from czech republic. Jakub, the guy behind Lilac, is pretty much on the go. Apart from this musical project he also runs Hayworth records and booking and the killindies.tk onlinezine.
In this project now he plays (mostly) very calm singer/songwriter stuff, just one voice and one guitar. The sound is lofi but music like this simply doesn't need big production. The whole music is very fragile and seems to be kinda personal. I'm afraid I don't understand all the lyrics although they are in english but I'd guess they are about personal, emotional topics. There is four songs in total and I like the third one „# 3“ the most for his energetic (loud?) beginning. It's a good contrast to the rest of the song and the other ones which are rather quiet (is the new loud...). The last song eventually ends with some kind of feedback-delay-noise which lasts a few minutes.
All in all a nice little piece of music but I'd wish a little more dynamic, more louder passages to stress the beauty of the calm ones and to avoid the cuddly monotony that rocks one to sleep. Plus lofi recording gets along a lot better with loud guitars than with quiet ones. I'm just comparing the sound to the first Kings of Convenience lp right now and must say: Jakub's guitars deserve a sound exactly like this, so warm and well pronounced but that's a completely different league I know and an unfair comparrison... What counts in the end is the songs and the song are good. I'd like to see this live and as Jakub seems to like touring quite a lot (shows in czech republic, poland and germany) there might be a good chance for that. Maybe someday...
