Suturee is the first non-latino music Puerto Rican band ever that I come across. You can probably imagine how surprised I was when I received a letter from the Caribbean. When I think of the Caribbean I usually think of holidays, hurricanes, EU dependencies, US interventions and music I can’t dance to. Rarely do I think of decent indie/postrock. Maybe I should revise my ideas…
Suturee are very mellow and quiet. Their songwriting lingers somewhere between postrock and melancholy indie. The shared female/male vocals are warm and charming. Technically it is just a duo consisting of Rebecca Adorno (!!) and Julian Brau but they got friends helping out on drums, bass and guitar. The outcome is gentle music that feels like a comforting embrace or a tender kiss. A little twee, a little Scandinavian introvertedness and simply good songs. It’s great they put out this record d.i.y. and d.i.y. kicks ass but they’d really deserve a record deal and broader attention. I like.
