Outstandingly conventional in being unconventional, Pg. Lost represents perfectly the current status of the experimental rock scene. The six long songs on the Swedish band’s debut longplayer wander from ambient soundscapes over minor chords arpeggios to distorted bursts of noise and back again. Sounding ethereal, introspective, yet dynamic, energetic and sometimes bombastic, this records follows the trails paved by bands like Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky or Mono for so long. While the album is technically flawless in all its aspects (songwriting, production, artwork) it fails in being artistically interesting. Generic to the max, it reiterates every postrock cliché possible - the “atmospheric” soundscapes, the meandering guitar melodies or the “feastful” climaxes. Exceedingly conservative in the stylistic devices, Pg. Lost make their mark in inverting the principles of postrock, which seems to be as conventional nowadays as rock ten years ago.
