It’s getting old describing complex music as mathematical, but for Digression Assassins nothing fits better: this Swedish grindcore band seems to line up part after part by an almost arithmetic principle. Their over-complex equation of shrieking yells, distorted grunts, blast beats, metal-fused riffing and mosh parts reminiscences a chaos theory’s musical version. But mathematical correctitude can’t match songwriting. Overambitious in mingling musical diversity the collection of songs looses the thread more than one time. The non-convincing result is just a blatant muddle, which proves once again that radicalness has nothing to do with abrasiveness. [phillip]
