Blake Henderson has got a beautiful voice! And it is this voice that carries the whole record. Without it this record might drown in the seas of singer/songwriter indie pop/folk/rock that flood the markets nowadays. But with this voice it peeps out of the waves a little, just enough to be memorable.
Think of Bright Eyes and the other Omaha stuff and then think of the fragile innocence of the better Vagrant releases some years ago. Finally think of Anticon records without hip hop and you’ll get close to what Taught me sounds like. Folk revival minus folk plus urbanity. One of the better and more relevant releases of a genre that keeps serving quantity rather than quality. Recommended.
