Genetiks are back with a new record that came out on Amöbenklang, the label you might remember as the label of Dritte Wahl. I’m kind of surprised. I didn’t know the label does still exist and actually I think Genetiks might be a little too artsy for them but who am I to judge…
Genetiks are still dark, energetic and sexy. On this record I’d describe them as DAF as a guitar rock band or Trend dressed in black army clothing. The lyrics are cryptic as hell but many of them revolve around war and violence, topics that fit the overall dark atmosphere of the record and the Julius Caesar rip off title pretty well. Compared to their older recordings this record got somewhat more contemplative moments while the full throttle high energy songs still predominate. If they would have put out this record in the early eighties they might be a little legend by now. Nowadays it is still enough to make them quite special and unique.
I also like the simple but the gold and white artwork with it’s war theme braid. Simple but stylish. Recommended.
