Octo Wallace |
[music] |
fast women slow horses - cd |

d.i.y. |
|
The term that Octo Wallace from Köln found for their own music is “prog minus shit” which pretty much hits the mark. Mostly instrumental music with guitar, bass, drums and synths meets weird song titles like “oliver beerhenke and the purple pipers at the gates of avalon”. I think this is pretty good. I like the tinny bass sound and the dynamic drumming. But it’s no my style. In my ears it sounds like good musicians jamming and showing off their qualities (which they have beyond doubt). Octo Wallace’s prog rock indeed lacks the stadium bullshit of their 70s precursors and the I-want-to-be-Pink-Floyd attitude of so many copycats but neither does it touch me emotionally nor does it make me dance and music that doesn’t move my heart nor my hips is the kind of music I try to prevent listening to. However this d.i.y. production comes across very simpatico and other people will like it for sure. [jan]
