As always when Kids Explode are onboard the artwork is a feast for the eye. Still the music doesn’t have to hide behind the artwork. Kids Explode’s “hotel room” is really good song in the typical Kids Explode lane. I love the lyrics. Having bands sing about physical love is way too rare an occasion and this one expresses what so many never dare to say. The remix by Icon on their side of the wax is okay but honestly I would have liked it better if there had been another new song on the record…
Solemn League on their side are guilty for some of the best lines of lyrics in recent music history. I can’t recall any better song about breaking up a relationship. “let’s celebrate our break-up”! “turns” is a good song, too. Maybe from a musical point of view it is even the better song with it’s übercatchy lead guitar licks. Take a cross section of the whole Dischord discography, add some Leo brothers and a pint of Washington Stat in the 1990s and you got Solemn League. Guitar rock is not dead yet. Buy this record!
