Fatboy from Sweden are the darkest rockabilly band I’ve ever heard. And I don’t mean dark in a cartoonish psychobilly way but in the way that The Dad Horse Experience is dark (if you don’t know it go and find out!). Drawing influences from country as well as sad pop music Fatboy are the perfect soundtrack for putting a rope around one’s neck or dating a passionate undertaker.
It reminds me a lot of Finnish tango as it has the very same, very Scandinavian kind of sadness and melancholy. At the same time it sounds very genuine, very Great Plains. I also like the simple but beautiful artwork and I like that it features the lyrics. For people who are into rockabilly or country or similar music this record is a must check out. People who don’t get along with this kind of aesthetic won’t like it. I guess. But that’s the way it is…
