Epoxies
Epoxies
stop the future - lp/cd
fat wreck
Somehow The Epoxies are a complicated issue. On the one hand everything they do is right. They have funny pseudonyms, dress like plastic jerks, play new wave synthie fueled punkrock and remind on Devo. All good attributes. But somehow their records don't find their way to my ears. While their last record had the veritable hit „need more time“ that was also featured on the first „rock against bush“ compilation the new one does not have such a smasher to offer. The biggest hit potential is still in the first track „radiation“ which is everything but a bad song.

I really like early punk and I like new wave and I thin it is a good idea to mix the two but somehow The Epoxies don't come along with good songs. The record is not much longer than half an hour still it was hard for me to keep attention while the last songs were spinning. The songs are just plashing along and the songs lack real climaxes. Catchy keyboards don't replace a good hookline. The voice is too monotonous and the songs all pretty much sound alike.

Well, don't get me wrong. This is no shitty record but unfortunately it is not more than average either and which is even more to blame: it does not kick the slightest ass, it got no jaws. If punkrock was a pittbull this would be a poodle. It totally lacks aggressivity and esprit. It is but nice and calm pop music...Anyway, the styling of the band is awesome and if there was an award for the best retro punk pseudonym it would for sure go to FM Static (if he knows about FM Einheit?!?)... [jan]
