french connection volume 3 - cd
free edge conspiracy
This cd is like some sort of audio scene report from france that comes along with 27 bands/songs in about 70 minutes and also includes a cd-rom part with further information like contacts, lyrics, biographies and discographies for all bands and all this for a non profit price of not more than 3€! Indeed a project worth support.

So let us now talk about the music on this piece of plastic. Of course I can't name all of them and tell you precise opinion about each one. On the one hand this would be far too much for a simple review and on the other hand some of the bands aren't really worth mentioning in my eyes. But as taste is always subjective and I don't want to diss any of the bands involved here I'd rather limit myself to the positive aspect of there are indeed not too few. My personal highlight is of course Amanda Woodward, a band I really love but that also was not new to me. Some bands I did not know all too well and that found their ways into my ears are the opener No Time To Lose with their singalong hardcore or M Sixteen with their Strike Anywhere like style. Other good bands are Backsight (melodic oldschool), Sequoia (screamometal), Aside From A Day (pure inferno metal) with the great song title „we are stalingrad“ or The Cold Within (bridge9 style).

All in all most of the bands do their thing quite well but what strikes me is that only about three bands seem to sing in french. Well it is not any different in germany. Everyone sings englich here as well at least in the classic hardcore genres but this somehow speaks against the anglophobia non french always expect the french to have. As so often this again seems to be more a prejudice than a fact...

So, if you want to know more about the french hardcore scene this cd is a good and cheap point to start from and when you made it through this lump of music you will be well equipment with a basic stock of information and are welcome to continue your search. And of course this cd can also help to improve the infrastructure of the french scene itself. Contact via email. Thumbs up! [jan]
