The World/Inferno Friendship Society is back with their 10th inferno and not much has changed in the house of the weirdos. They still play an absolutely unique blend of freak show circus music, chansons from the districts of Paris that are of a rather questionable fame and the drunkenness of nights boozed through with expensive red wine.
They singlehandedly combine the charme of a 1920s varieté with energy of a crowd dancing behind burning barricades in contemporary streets. They are really cutting edge. Where others are leaning back and follow the yellow brick road they simply create a whole new style on there own. This is so fucking pomo.
But enough of the eulogies. Let's talk about this record. In my eyes this one is not the best stuff the Society has done so far but still it is a brilliant work, especially the second half of the songs that are really anthem-like and feature really nice lead guitars. And I love the chimes on „paul robeson“!
So, for everyone who is really into World/Inferno this one is a must and for everyone else this one is a starting point just as good as every other record (except „international smashism“ which is simply the best shit they ever put out!). And if you belong to those who don't like this band then you will not like this record either but then you are sincerely invited to seriously fuck off! Hail Inferno! [jan]
