General Patton vs. The X-Ecutioners
General Patton vs. The X-Ecutioners

I consider myself a fan of Mike Patton, his great bands like Fantomas or Tomahawk and countless features for Björk, Sepultura etc., but his latest collabo with the X-exutioners does not really strike me. Well it definitely is weird enough for a Patton output, but weirdness alone does not make a good record. Sure this one got its highlights, but the big missing point is that it neither offers Patton's enormous voice acrobatics nor the X-ecutioners' amazing turntable skills. It is rather three quarters of an hour of unrelated samples broken by few moments of great music. It sounds like a mixtape done by a crack junkie on withdrawal. Indeed it is weird, heavy and hard to follow, but after all it is not more than average. From an art point of view it might make sense, but it is no satisfaction to listen to it and from such masters of their genres I just expect something more groundbreaking... [jan]
