Berlin’s electropunk squad finally got their first real vinyl release out. This 7” is out on Hamburg based label Audiolith that already delivered delicacies by Räuberhöhle or Plemo and it does anything but disappoint me.
The sound has become much less lofi and bleepy than it was on the old songs but this in my eyes this is a positive change. The song on the a-side is a collabo with Zürich technopunks Saalschutz and deals with a whole new theme called love. A straight rocking beat and massive vocoder voice action make it a sure hit. The flipside got a song with a less straight beat and an overvocoded voice and is called “luxus” (luxury). It is rather laid back but nevertheless a real hit due to the brilliant synthie lines.
Is this a betrayal of the good old micromusic times? Well maybe but the new sound kicks serious ass. Also the lyrics of this antideutsch special task force are not as frontal as on “exportschlager leitkultur” but in a certain way love is a political well. Isn’t the romantic couple relationship the germ cell of capitalist reproduction in times that the classic family is losing more and more of its importance? And luxury is kinda en vogue in the left, too since some years ago. Seems to be a topic for a lot of people…
The songs featured on this piece of vinyl will never become modern classics like “exportschlager leitkultur” became within a very short period of time but they are excellent electropunk gems doubleworth checking out if you are at least a little bit interested in electronic beats!
